Study: 70% of People on Antidepressants Dont Have Depression

A study has been done recently showing that almost seventy percent of all the people on depression medication dont even meet the criteria for clinical depression. Why is it then that all of these people are being treated for depression?

These people are likely just going through the normal sadness of life that everyone experiences, yet they have been diagnosed as depressed and are on things like Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac, and abilify. It has been noted that about forty percent of people taking medication for other psychiatric disorders dont meet the criteria for what they are diagnosed with. Disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder, social phobia, general anxiety, panic disorder, and many others. Prescriptions for anti-depressants have gone sky high in the past several decades. Back in 1998 almost twelve million Americans used these drugs and in 2010 nearly twenty-four million.

There are tons of people out there addicted to anti-depression medicines. This became routine because the government wants to make lots of money off of us and we as people have trouble dealing with emotions appropriately. But luckily with more people looking for more natural alternatives for just about everything it seems we will be able to bring pill popping down substantially.
