Fox News’ Sean Hannity wants Donald Trump to ban the press from the White House

Sean Hannity, the right-wing sycophant who genuinely seems indifferent to democracy and the First Amendment, agreed on Sunday that President-elect Donald Trump should blacklist CNN, The New York Times and The Washington Post from the White House.

Responding to a Twitter user who wanted the Trump administration to pull the credentials from major news outlets, the factually challenged broadcaster agreed.

Hannity had made his name denigrating the “liberal media” and brainwashing his audience into believing the press is corrupt long before Donald Trump rose to power. He has even suggested that the National Enquirer has more journalistic credibility than The New York Times.

When WikiLeaks dumped emails belonging to the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, Hannity claimed there was evidence of collusion between the Democratic nominee and members of the mainstream media. On Monday Hannity doubled down, insisting that CNN was one-sided in its coverage and that the news organization, should not be guaranteed press credentials.

What Hannity appeared to be advocating was that only Fox News and Breitbart should have access to the president. Hannity thinks of himself as a patriot, a conservative throwback who champions democracy. But as Trump prepares to take over the White House, appointing former Breitbart News head Steve Bannon as his right-hand man, it’s fair to ask whether Hannity believes Breitbart and Fox News should serve as official state media.
